Moonfur woke to see the sunlight from the sunset lighting up the cave. Applepaw was out collecting herbs. She stood with some difficulty and stumbled out into the middle of the grotto. She looked up at the sky and noticed that it was half moon. She would go to Star Grotto tonight with her apprentice for the first time in many moons of healing in the medicine den. Applepaw had worked extra hard to make sure she was healed, and to heal the rest of the clan. She had decided that she was going to make Applepaw a full medicine cat tonight. He had proved himself worthy when he had fought off the fox with her and Milkfoot, and had restored Moonfur to full health. She looked around and spotted Milkfoot and her litter of bouncing kits next to her near the nursery. Her mate was a rouge who had died just before her kits were born, she was devastated until they were born and she seemed to know that it was her duty to care for her kits. Applepaw appeared through the small tunnel, and came over to his mentor. They touched noses, and Applepaw sat next to Moonfur.
"It's good to see you out of the medicine den." He said. Moonfur stood up and stretched her legs. Applepaw stood up and walked over to the medicine den. He returned with a pile of traveling herbs. He nosed them to her, and Moonfur swallowed them. The fight with the fox had changed him. He had a sense of pride and confidence to him now, before he was just a depressed lump of fur. Moonfur and Applepaw walked out of the camp and into the forest.
They went into the Star Grotto, and Applepaw and Moonfur sat next to the pool and licked up the water. They fell asleep instantly.
They woke up and stretched. Applepaw looked up at the moon, and started to turn to leave the hollow. He looked back to see Moonfur sitting staring at him. "Applepaw it's time you became a full medicine cat." Moonfur said, her bright blue eyes shining. Applepaw walked over to join his mentor. She looked up at the stars.
"I, Moonfur, medicine cat of CaveClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help he will serve his Clan for many moons." Moonfur looked down at her apprentice. "Applepaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan an to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Applepaw looked into Moonfur's bright eyes. "I do."
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Applepaw, from this moment you will be known as Appleseed. StarClan honors your wisdom and your perseverance, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat." Moonfur rested her muzzle on the top of Appleseed's head and he licked Moonfur's shoulder. The chorus of Appleseed's name resounded across the walls of the cavern. When the chorus died down, Moonfur and Appleseed slowly padded out of cave.
